Collection: Mountain Glasses with Photochromic Lenses
MOUNTAIN GLASSES WITH PHOTOCHROMIC LENSES 2-4
Mountain weather is often unstable and can change very quickly. It is essential to always be prepared with technical equipment to best protect yourself, enhance your performance, and ensure the safety of your excursions.
Regardless of the activity—whether it's mountaineering, hiking, climbing, or Nordic walking—it is crucial to shield your eyes with lenses suitable for the heightened intensity of light and UV rays typical of mountains, high altitudes, and glaciers.
There are various types of lenses and models of glasses on the market suitable for mountain use, so it’s essential to choose the ones that best suit your needs and provide constant, clear vision throughout your journey.
DEMON has designed three models of mountain glasses with photochromic lenses for all mountain enthusiasts engaged in mountaineering and hiking. These lenses offer optimal protection against intense solar and UV exposure, even during prolonged use.
Photochromic mountain lenses represent the top tier for hikers and mountaineers seeking a comprehensive mountain experience with maximum eye protection and a consistent, clear view of the terrain.
Mountain glasses with photochromic lenses dynamically adapt to changes in light conditions. When exposed to bright light, the lens undergoes a chemical reaction, darkening to provide adequate shade. In shaded areas, such as tunnels or dense forests, the lens returns to its original state.
The darkness of the lens in mountain glasses with photochromic lenses adjusts according to the intensity of UV rays and light. The lens darkens as needed, with greater UV intensity resulting in darker shading. For instance, using a photochromic category 2-4 mountain lens on a glacier or at high altitudes allows the lens to adjust until it reaches category 4, providing maximum protection—a safety level commonly used in mountaineering due to its superior light protection.
What are the main features of mountain glasses with photochromic lenses?
Dynamic lenses:
Using photochromic mountain lenses that adapt to the weather and light conditions encountered along the route is the best choice from both a technical and comfort perspective for mountain lovers. The photochromic lenses in category 2-4 mountain glasses are unique; they start from protection category one in their non-active state (equivalent to the darkness of an orange lens) and then darken based on UV and light intensity until they reach category 4, but only when necessary. The maximum darkness that the photochromic mountain lens (category 4) can achieve is commonly chosen by those who engage in mountaineering or glacier excursions.
However, this type of lens can also be used for trekking at lower altitudes because it darkens "as necessary," reaching category 3 in cases of intense sunlight while increasing the level of protection with altitude or light intensity. Furthermore, opting for a dynamic lens that constantly adapts to the environment is equivalent to using mountain glasses that can be worn for the entire duration of your excursion.
Shatterproof lenses: When it comes to eye safety, photochromic mountain glasses are made from anti-breakage polycarbonate. In the event of an accidental impact, the lens does not produce fragments that could harm the eyes; instead, it distributes the shock across the entire lens surface, rendering it intact. It’s essential to consider not only the visual aspects of the excursion but also complete safety in case of unexpected events.
Decentralized and optically perfect lenses: Lens decentralization is crucial for the precise perception of the route. Non-decentralized lenses can cause slight visual distortions, displaying an offset point even by millimeters from the center. This difference can be critical in challenging and complicated sections, determining the difference between a fall and a successful passage.
Ultra-light and elastic frames: Mountain glasses with photochromic lenses feature frames made from TR90, a special composition of nylon and carbon fiber. These glasses are 20% lighter than conventional materials, more elastic, and therefore more comfortable to wear. They are also more resistant to impacts and tensions at both high and low temperatures. TR90 is hypoallergenic, making it suitable for prolonged use in all atmospheric conditions without irritating the skin.
Rubberized grip parts: The internal rubberized parts are made of soft, hypoallergenic Megol, which not only provides grip—enhancing the glasses' stability on the face—but also offers greater comfort in fitting.
Accessories: The MAKALU and OUTDOOR models with photochromic lenses come with a removable internal sweatband. This sponge prevents the lateral passage of light, wind, dust, and other debris, and also protects the eyes from cold temperatures when used in low-temperature conditions. It can be easily removed when not needed.
All models of mountain glasses with photochromic lenses come equipped with a removable elastic cord, allowing you to secure the glasses to your face for enhanced stability and safety.
For those who wear prescription glasses:
For individuals who wear prescription glasses, there is a variant called OUTDOOR. These mountain glasses feature 2-4 photochromic lenses with a clip compartment where you can insert prescription lenses through your trusted optician. The wide field of vision provides users with the advantages of technical mountain glasses combined with prescription lenses.
